Tappeti’s approach to sustainability is two-fold – to ensure we reduce any harm to the environment from our products and processes and to wherever possible be of positive benefit to people and their communities.

We begin by carefully considering materiality. Through the use of natural fibres including wool, hemp and cactus yarn along with responsibly manufactured art silk derived from plant cellulose, we are able to ensure our supply chain has clean, low-impact beginnings.

The use of non-toxic pot-dyeing of the yarns minimises waste and risks of water pollution. By using traditional handmade processes, we also eliminate much of the pollution and waste associated with industrial manufacturing processes.

Our processes including material sourcing, labour conditions and equipment are also fully documented, ensuring we can provide visibility and transparency of the environmental footprint of every Tappeti creation.

This integrity has been recognised by many leading architects and designers looking to procure bespoke rugs and carpets for projects with ambitious sustainability aspirations including those looking to achieve a Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
